I think that you could possibly duplicate this effect by using the bark
texture that is included in Forge - apply the texture using flat and not
cylindrical mapping and it looks pretty close. You could also use it to
duplicate the effect of the MTV's Sandblast logo. I can't give you
specifics right now, as I've had some problems with Forge multitasking
for some reason.
